What this can and cannot recover

This tool improves detail that is already in the photo. It can reduce low-light grain and make a slightly soft image look crisper, but it cannot recover a subject that is completely out of focus or blurred by movement.

How much is too much

Too much sharpening can add bright outlines around edges, while too much noise reduction can make skin and fabric look unnaturally smooth. Start with the defaults, move one control at a time and stop when the photo looks clean but still natural.

Is this an AI upscaler?

No. It improves the detail already present in the photo, but it does not invent new detail or enlarge the image with AI.

Will it fix a blurry photo?

It will make a slightly soft photo look crisp. It cannot recover an out-of-focus or motion-blurred shot — the information is not in the file, and sharpening only makes what is there more contrasty.

Why does my image look worse at high sharpening?

Those are halos: sharpening exaggerates the contrast at edges, and past a point it draws a visible bright line along them. Back the slider off until they disappear.

Does it work on large photos?

Yes, up to about 40 megapixels. Larger photos may take a little longer depending on the device you are using.
